Danny’s Story

Hello, I’m Danny the donkey! Life hasn’t always been easy for me, but it’s turned out rather splendidly here at Halfpenny-Farm Animal Sanctuary. Let me tell you my story.

Back in 2013, I arrived at the sanctuary in a dishevelled state: thin, dispirited, and with nowhere to call home. My previous owner no longer wanted me. I felt lost and unloved. But everything changed the moment I set hoof on the sanctuary’s grounds. It was a new beginning; one filled with kindness and hope.

Now, I share my life with some amazing friends.  My best friend of all is Dillon the donkey. We’re inseparable, sharing laughs (yes, donkeys laugh!) and days filled with grazing in my field. I love my treats a bit too much; nothing beats the occasional treat of crunchy apples and sweet carrots. Those moments make every day unique.

The volunteers at Halfpenny-Farm make me feel very special.  They know the right way to rub my ears; there’s nothing more relaxing than that! I’ve become quite popular around the farm. Not to brag, but I’m a natural when it comes to posing for pictures. My ears perk up, my tail swishes just so, and voila—picture-perfect Danny!

Yet, as much as I adore the sunny days and the love I receive, I do have my dislikes. Rain and cold weather? No, thank you! You’ll find me grumbling in my shelter, dreaming of warmer days and the feel of soft grass beneath my hooves.

So, that’s me, Danny the donkey: a survivor turned sanctuary star. If you ever visit Halfpenny-Farm, come say hello. Bring a carrot or two, and don’t forget to snap a photo; I promise to show off my best side!
