Samson- was the most gentle, loving cat you could ever fine, but we suspect he was thrown out before he was a year old! He moved in with us in 1996 and although we advertised for his owners we got no response- so he stayed. He developed and overactive thyroid 2006, and is on medication to control it, he has been very hard to stabilise and we have now let slightly underactive as he seems to be at his healthiest like that. Lately Samson has been diagnosed with a form of cancer, a lymphoma we think. He is keeping well at the moment though.
Samson was PTS due to kidney failure and lyphoma in June 2010.
Spice- came in 2006, aged 15, along with her sister Chokki. Their owners were moving abroad and nobody wanted to take on 2 old cats, so they came to us. Sadly we lost Chokki 6 months later as it turned out she had renal failure. Spice was diagnosed with an overctive thyroid at the same time and is also on medication. In 2009, when she was being given her routine blood test we found out her kidneys were also starting to fail. Her blood pressure was checked, as was her urine to see how much protien she was losing in it. Her blood pressure was quite high, but her protein was low, all in all this was good news. We are treating her blood pressure with tablets and that fact her urine protein levels are low means we can, hopefully, slow down the kidney failure. She is on a special renal diet, ipakatine and rubenal and will eventually go onto fortekor. Spice is also getting acupuncture for her arthritis, we cannot give metacam ans she suffers quite a lot from the pain. In feb 2010 Spice developed a head tilt, and she was very poorly, not willing to eat at all.
Spice was PTS when her kidneys could no longer support her system in July 2010.
Una- a rat, 2009- 2010.
